Moving Dharma Dance Lab
The Moving Dharma Dance Lab met for eight months, from October '08-May'09. We consisted of five dancers, male and female, ranging in age from early 20's to late 50's. Our backgrounds, training and stylistic strengths, included modern dance, contact improvisation, performance art, yoga, hip-hop, and theater work. Our pieces were improvisational scores, focused on authentically moving from awareness and curiosity brought to the present moment. We began sessions with meditation and individual contemplative movement. From this ground we expanded into relationship, where our play of interactions evoked and made connections on different planes: kinesthetic, imaginative, dramatic, archetypal, transcendent. We attended to the power of stillness throughout our pieces, and in some cases to spoken word as well. Our work was shared as an offering to support contemplative practice and the celebration of life.
An abridged film of our '09 Arboretum performance is posted on the Film page.
