Dancing with Dharma Day-Longs
These full or half day retreats engage participants in kinesthetic explorations informed by the Satipatthana Sutta on the Foundations of Mindfulness. Activities include seated meditation, a Dharma talk, hip-hop warm ups, creative movement exercises, and a Dharma-themed improv dance jam, or Dharma Jam.
Themes and movement structures can also be tailored to a group's focus and goals, and activities have ranged from interpretive dance with Buddhist teenagers to hip-hop warm ups with corporate executive coaches. Special attention is given to supporting individuals' comfort and ease amidst the inhibitions and anxieties that can arise in being a moving body. Toward this end, workshops often begin with the more structured exercises before opening into the improvisation of a Dharma Jam.
Consultations are welcome to explore how a workshop could best fit the needs of your group.
